SHOBBROOK WINES

TOM SHOBBROOK

Barossa Valley, South Australia

Tom travelled across Europe for six years, mostly in Italy and France, before he returned to his family vineyard in the Barossa Valley in 2007. Although the place was not renowned for organic farming and winemaking, Tom knew from the beginning that he wanted to grow the grapes biodynamically, without any additions and as naturally as possible. His authentic approach has convinced several other growers of the Barossa Valley to work naturally without the use of chemicals or artificial additives.

After 12 years of growing grapes and making wines on the family farm in Seppeltsfield things have come to an end. Tom now has 2 hectares of vines in Flaxman Valley eventually ending up with around 5 hectares of vines and a mixed orchard of fruit and nut trees.

BACKGROUND OF NATURAL WINE IN AUSTRALIA

Australia's natural wine scene is a blend of innovation and tradition, and in recent years there has been a surge in adopting organic and biodynamic principles in winemaking. Renowned regions such as the Adelaide Hills, Victoria's Yarra Valley, and Margaret River in Western Australia stand out as hotspots for natural wine production. Grapes like Shiraz, Chardonnay, and Pinot Noir take on a distinctive character in the hands of these forward-thinking winemakers, contributing to Australia's reputation as a hub for dynamic and sustainable viticulture.
