Domaine Landron

Loire Valley, France

"Only the respect of the soils and the vines by organic farming allows [the wines] to express their full personality."  - Joseph Landron

Domaine Landron’s soil-specific Muscadets represent the opposite of the bland, neutral, overcropped produce that has sadly become the regional norm. Looking further beyond wine-growing techniques, Landron makes single vineyards Muscadets, each one with different aging abilities, individual complexity, and unique mineral identity. Landron’s story began around 1945, after twenty years of existence of the Muscadet Sèvre et Maine appellation. Jo Landron’s father, Pierre, and his brother, Julien, progressively made wine-growing the main activity of the small three-hectare family farm holding. With time, the diversity of the three main soil and bedrock types or ‘terroirs’,  led to a new terroir-specific focus. The Domaine started fermenting each plot separately to give the wines a clear identity. The conversion of the 20 hectares of vineyards to organic wine-growing began in 1999, obtaining the Ecocert certification in 2002. Later, in 2005, biodynamics entered the vineyard: with treatments like horn manure, silica, and valerian, and stinging nettle and horsetail teas, the estate eventually joined the biodynamic wine-growing movement already followed by other estates in France and abroad.
